SADC PHOTO EXHIBITION
The NAGN hosted the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Photo Exhibition on the 13th August 2010, under the theme "A visual journey towards a common future" as it was celebrating its 30th Anniversary under a theme. The photo exhibition commemorated the SADC history.
The SADC Photo Exhibition that was officially opened on the 13th August 2010 in the UPPER GALLERY, coincidences with the summit that was hosted in the capital city. This special exhibition only lasted for 6 days. In the same vein, Dr Tomaz Augusto Salamao, the Executive Secretary of SADC, expressed his sincere gratitude to the NAGN for hosting such a very important event in the history of SADC.
The SADC Photo Exhibition is born out of the conviction that the history of SADC deserves to be documented, shared, cherished, archived and passed on to the people of the SADC Region, from all walks of life. It is a living testimony of how SADC traversed many challenges, recorded numerous milestones and continues to progressively achieve our stated goal of deepening regional integration in all its manifestations. Indeed, the photo exhibition is a road map that tells the story of the genesis of SADC from 1980 to 2010, outlining the 30 years of glorious progress in our march towards a common future; a future of progress, prosperity and development for the region and its people.
The theme of this photo exhibition "A visual Journey Towards a Common Future", is a fitting tribute to the vision of the founders of our organization, whose vision has been implemented through growing and strengthened solidarity and unity of the SADC member States, to achieve the SADC objectives contained in the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan and the Strategic Indicative Plan of the Organ. The theme is also a call to all peace, security, political and socioeconomic development to the entire citizens of the SADC Region.
Since its inception as the Southern African Development Coordination Conference (SADCC) on the 1st April 1980 and its transformation into the SADC on the 17 August 1992, our organization has withstood the tests of time. On the political front, Namibia and South Africa broke the yokes of apartheid oppression and achieved independence, democracy and freedom. Similarly, peace and stability has been restored in the eastern parts of the DRC; democratic elections have been held in all SADC Member States since the formation of SADC.
