Exhibitions and Curatorial Department

The National Art Gallery of Namibia is 'duties are in line with the Act 14 2000 of the parliament. It is in keeping with the concern for all the arts that reflects the art of Namibia.
The Director and Curators are both keen to see the development of the art and artists in all the regions of Namibia. The National Art Gallery of Namibia's mandate is to collect preserve and conserve the art objects. This is done through its set policies of the (Collection Management Policy).. 

The curatorial department see the way how exhibitions are” hung' the curatorial department also keeps the record of artist's database and the collection database. The database is called Museum-D Program which is programmed for Museums and Galleries. This is a crucial stage of a collection, which allows it to be on-line and it is retrievable on line connection.


The department also takes a great care in mounting and displaying exhibitions so that works of art develop contextual relationship and the exhibitions have a rational and intellectual framework.


The Curators and technicians are aware of 'space provided by the gallery. The ranges of services they offer exhibitors are normal those services which might be offered by any private gallery. The curatorial department also oversee together with the PRO' the media coverage, professional written review as well as marketing of the exhibitions.

In 2009/10 the gallery hosted major exhibitions: IFA from Germany, Stagging Made in Namibia-(photographic exhibition). Namibia twenty years of independence: Swapo Liberation Struggle: American Jazz Photographic exhibition and Botswana Day Exhibition and many more.

Annual Exhibition is the central activities of NAGN and the means by which it brings art to the public. The monthly exhibitions reflects the artistic mandate of the gallery, and at times more broadly the cultural mandate of the nation. The National Art Gallery of Namibia is proud to be the pillar for the artistic and cultural value of the nation.
