/Ae//Gams Festival Exhibition
23-30 September 2008
"Culture is the Foundation of a Nation"

As part of the /Ae//Gams festival, the National Art Gallery of Namibia hosted an art exhibition from 23 – 30 September 2008 at the Katutura Community Art Centre’s gallery. The theme was, “Culture is the foundation of a nation”.

The /Ae//Gams programme was initiated to reinforce positive images of the City of Windhoek and to promote the arts and cultural activities in the City.

Apart from bringing together all Namibians, the festival also serves as a vehicle to enhance the Namibian identity through cultural expression. The main objective of this festival is to make the City of Windhoek a vibrant cultural, art and tourist destination in Africa. This festival presents a platform that serves as a means of exposing the local talent, particularly to our people and to the international community.

The exhibition featured artists such as David Amukoto, DemupaKaupatwa, Barbara Pirron,  Fillipus Sheehama, Max Edison Katshuna, Festus Kavari, Kaleb Haipinge, Ziggy Marthin, Martin Bosman and Werner Mouton,  amongst others.  Their works were a fusion of an ecclectic mix, from colourful prints,  expressive paintings,  drawings and multi-media works,  they spoke for themselves.

Some of the works provided a glimpse into the type of contemporary art produced by Namibian artists,  an interpretation of their visions through art.
