The National Art Gallery of Namibia (NAGN) is excited to announce that it has been invited by the Museums of African Arts in Belgrade Serbia to participate in the Afro Festival.

As the custodian of Visual Art in Namibia, the NAGN is taking this opportunity to showcase Namibian Art and craft at international arts platform to give exposure to the great talent that we have here in our country. This is one of the many collaborations that the NAGN is intending to have with the Museum of African Art in Belgrade, Serbia.

The NAGN Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Snobia Kaputu indicated that “The National Art Gallery of Namibia is pleased to participate in the Afro-Festival, an opportunity that will allow us to market our Art products on behalf of our Namibian artists to the global market. I am also excited to announce that during the festival the NAGN will be signing smart partnership agreement with the Museum of African Art on future collaborations and networking, which will be a great breakthrough for our creative industry to penetrate the international art market”.

The Afro Festival is a three-day (28-30 June 2019) event organized each year by the Museum, and it contributes to the expansion and nurturing of cultural ties and the promotion of the principles of multiculturality and cultural diversity. Among other activities, on 28 June 2019 the festival will host the AFRICAN BAZAAR, an Arts and crafts sale exhibition where The National Art Gallery of Namibia is the special exhibiting guest for this year. The Bazaar creates an opportunity for people from across the globe to meet and share their interests, thus affirming the Museum’s role as “House of Africa in Belgrade”. The sale exhibition offers visitors an array of different arts, crafts and souvenirs such as masks and sculptures in stone and wood, handmade and coloured fabrics, paintings, batiks and decorative objects for the interior. The NAGN will be showcasing art and crafts from various artists in the country as well as catalogues documenting Namibian art. The Afro Festival is one of the most important annual events, which has been organized by the Museum of African Art since 1997. The festival is a unique event in Serbia and the region, and promotes the cultures of Africa by creating a truly cosmopolitan atmosphere. The festival offers exhibitions and lectures, concerts, talks and travel-related programs, film screenings on African arts and cultures, music and art workshops, as well as guided tours through the Museum’s displays.
